In a bid to bolster economic and defense ties, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is urging a renewed partnership between Türkiye and the United States. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan emphasized the practical benefits of closer cooperation between the two NATO allies, particularly in areas such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and defense.
The Turkish leader stressed the importance of removing barriers to enhance joint defense production, highlighting Türkiye’s burgeoning defense industry. Over the past two decades, the country’s defense exports have surged from $248 million to more than $10 billion annually. Erdoğan expressed confidence that Türkiye is on track to become one of the world’s top ten defense exporters, a development that could significantly benefit both nations through increased collaboration and technology exchange.
Erdoğan’s call for increased cooperation comes amid global conflicts and crises, underlining the necessity of strong bilateral ties. He pointed out that past collaborations between Türkiye and the United States have led to positive outcomes in several international issues, especially in the Middle East. The potential expansion of cooperation could serve as a stabilizing force in the region.
Additionally, Erdoğan invited U.S. investors to explore the growing opportunities in Türkiye, highlighting a new investment drive characterized by a competitive incentive framework. This initiative aims to attract foreign investment by offering favorable conditions for international businesses, thereby strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons also underscored the enduring partnership between the nations, highlighting the significant role of business relationships and entrepreneurship in fortifying diplomatic and economic connections. The event in New York was attended by senior Turkish and U.S. officials and business leaders, further demonstrating the commitment to nurturing this important alliance.
