The US Air Force has rescinded the promotions of 135 security forces personnel after identifying a scoring mishap in the evaluation of their specialty knowledge test. The error arose from the use of an outdated scoring key in the Security Forces Specialty Knowledge Test (SKT), leading to incorrect assessments of the candidates’ performance. Initially, these individuals were informed that they had secured promotions to the rank of technical sergeant.
Upon recognizing the scoring discrepancy, the Air Force undertook a comprehensive review, reassessing all 2,285 test papers involved in the promotion process. This effort successfully pinpointed the candidates who truly qualified for promotion, and the 135 erroneously awarded promotions have been adjusted in favor of those who met the criteria. The total number of promotions available remains fixed at 586, ensuring that the correction did not affect the overall promotion count.
Air Force officials have characterized this incident as an isolated occurrence, attributing it to human error without any involvement of artificial intelligence in the grading process. Affected personnel have been informed about the adjustments, and the Air Force has provided them with support to help manage any concerns stemming from this development.
