Innovative 100 V GaN Power Stages Enter Mass Production for Motor Drives

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its novel 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family. This lineup includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111, all designed for high-performance motion-control applications. These ePower™ Stage ICs are distinguished by their integration of high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry, all housed within compact, thermally enhanced QFN packages. This design aims to enhance power density and efficiency while streamlining system design.

The devices operate up to 100 V, with current ratings of 35 A and 20 A, depending on the specific model. Key features of these integrated designs include fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss conditions, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Additionally, single-input PWM options are available, catering to multi-axis motor-control applications. To support the new power-stage ICs, EPC has also introduced the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms incorporate gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, and temperature monitoring and protection functions.

The new devices are available through EPC’s global distribution network, including distributors such as Digi-Key and Mouser. The target applications for these innovations span a range of fields, including humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. The pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 is set at $3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are available at $2.47 each, based on orders of 3,000 units. Evaluation boards EPC91128 and EPC91129 are priced at $640 each, with EPC91130 and EPC91131 available at $630 each.

EPC is also releasing a technical white paper, available in both English and Chinese, which delves into the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these new integrated GaN power-stage ICs.
